Deceased Search

The national Deceased Search has been specifically designed for deceased identity fraud prevention within Local Authorities. Using the Deceased Search will give key decision makers the appropriate customer identification and verification tools to help eradicate deceased identity fraud.

This can be achieved via a direct search on the Deceased database or from the results page of a Benefits, Council Tax or Business Rates Search.

The information provided by the search includes:

  • Full Name
  • Last Known Address
  • Gender
  • Date of Birth (if held)
  • Date of Death
  • Source indicator

MAG:NET Solutions are licensed by Millennium Direct to hold the HALO database and to provide a national Deceased Search. HALO is a unique system based on a database of over 8 million deceased records, where all data is verifiable. Currently, it is the largest and most reliable source of deceased names in the UK, with over 40,000 new names added each month. It addresses the business requirement for an effective and early deceased fraud identity prevention alert.

HALO is built from the following data sources:

  • Governmental Records – official certified deaths
  • Funeral Directors – records supplied by agreement after burial or cremation
  • Register Offices – deceased registration notifications
  • Data Exchange – through major UK insurance companies
  • Deceased Preference Service – consumer collection service

All data records are scored with a source indicator flag to give users the confidence to accept, reject or pass applications for secondary checking.

The database is updated on a weekly basis.

This search is provided at no extra cost to our unlimited users where it is included in the LoCTA Search licence fee.
